• Slowing of the skin cell lifecycle - resulting in a thicker epidermis (superficial layer of dead cells), causing drier and uneven skin texture.
• Collagen and elastin fibres in the dermis provide skin texture and volume - these fibres begin to break down from around the age of 30, causing fine lines, wrinkles and folds to develop.
• Muscles underlying the facial skin are responsible for expression. Overactivity of such muscles (eg. frowning) wrinkles the skin further. This effect is more noticable with advancing age.
